On Tuesday 5 January 2027, Nairobi hosts one of the biggest football nights in its history. Bayern Munich, on their first ever visit to Kenya, take on Ajax Amsterdam to open the new 60,000-seat Raila Odinga International Stadium at Talanta Sports City. The stadium is about 10 km west of Nairobi CBD, where Norfolk Towers Serviced Apartments is based. Here is what we know about the match, and how a short stay at Norfolk Towers works before, during and after the game.
The match at a glance
- Fixture: FC Bayern Munich vs AFC Ajax, a friendly marking the official opening of the stadium.
- Date: Tuesday 5 January 2027, in the middle of the European winter break.
- Venue: Raila Odinga International Stadium at Talanta Sports City, off Ngong Road, Nairobi. Capacity is 60,000.
- The clubs: Between them, Bayern and Ajax have won the European Champions Cup ten times, six for Bayern and four for Ajax. Bayern's squad for the trip is expected to be confirmed closer to the date, with England captain Harry Kane among the names fans are watching.
- Why it matters: The stadium is Kenya's flagship venue for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations, which Kenya co-hosts with Uganda and Tanzania, so this match is the first big test of the new arena.
- Tickets: Due to go on sale from 5 November through the stadium's official ticketing platform.
Where to stay

Before the match
- Book early. Two or three nights works well: arrive Monday 4 January, leave Wednesday 6 January.

Match day
- Leave early. Ngong Road is busy, and planned road and rail upgrades may not be ready.
- Book your taxi through reception and agree a meeting point with your group.
- Travel light. Keep passports and valuables in the apartment safe.
After the match
- Expect a slow exit. Agree your ride home before the final whistle.
- Rest up. Come back to a quiet apartment with a kitchen and a comfortable bed.
- Day after: a late breakfast, then the museum or a half-day at Nairobi National Park, before your airport transfer.
